The Southeast Asian Regional Center for Graduate Study and Research in Agriculture (SEARCA), in partnership with the Research Center for Rural Development (RCRD) of An Giang University and with support from the Food Security Center (FSC) of the University of Hohenheim, will bring together selected Southeast Asian researchers to the Forum on Promoting Sustainable Agriculture in the Mekong Sub-Region towards Food Security slated for 6-7 November 2017 at An Giang University, Vietnam.

The forum will serve as a venue for grantees of the SEARCA Seed Fund for Research and Training (SFRT) across the Mekong Sub-Region to exchange findings from their respective research studies. Eight grantees will share the result of their SFRT-funded projects conducted from 2013 to 2016, covering various topics on ecological farming, adaptation to climate change, and improving rural livelihoods and food security.

Other SFRT grantees and SEARCA scholarship alumni from Cambodia, Lao PDR, Myanmar, Vietnam, and Thailand are also expected to participate in the forum. Aside from the presentations, a workshop will also be conducted to develop concept notes on possible areas of collaborative research in the Mekong Sub-Region, focusing on the promotion of sustainable agriculture towards food security.

The two-day event will also bring attention to the research conducted by the RCRD of An Giang University under the project component Agroecology Learning Alliance in South East Asia (ALiSEA). The ALiSEA supports activities that aim to increase visibility and credibility of the agroecology movement, and scale up the development and adoption of agroecological practices among farmers.
