The DOST-Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development (DOST-PCAARRD) will be sharing technologies and innovations which are products of research and development aimed at food security and sustainability in the agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources (AANR) sectors at the 5th National Research and Development Conference (NRDC).
DOST-PCAARD said that this will be one of the highlights of the 5th NRDC.
Organized and held annually by DOST, the NRDC features outputs of government-supported programs and projects under the Harmonized National R&D Agenda (HNRDA) to government agencies, local government units (LGUs), academe, industry and communities, local and international organizations and the general public.
The event carries the theme, “Research and Development: Making Change Happen,” and will be held virtually via Zoom from November 9 to 11, 2020.
The R&D outputs in the agriculture and aquatic sector will be discussed during the third and final day of the NRDC, which will be moderated by Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, Executive Director of the DOST-PCAARRD.
“Among the R&D outputs to be showcased are: how we have won the battle against cocolisap in coconut; clonal forestry; Hi-Q VAM for bamboo; microalgae as aquaculture feed; quality trepang from Philippine sandfish; surveillance system for banana disease; flora and fauna in Cebu Island’s key biodiversity areas; Pinoy gourmix; farming superlicious worms; and wonders of Philippine mushrooms,” DOST-PCAARD said.
It added that a lineup of reputable speakers, who are the technology generators themselves, from various state universities and colleges (SUCs) and higher education institutions (HEIs), government agencies, and private institutions will discuss these topics.
Aside from showcasing technology and innovation outputs of the AANR sectors, COVID-19 initiatives will be headlined by Ebora during the event. Ebora, who will be one of the panelists, will discuss PCAARRD’s GALING-PCAARRD program to address the impact of the pandemic.
GALING is short for Good Agri-Aqua Livelihood Initiatives towards National Goals which in Filipino means “to heal”.
Ebora will also tackle the amendment to the HNRDA, particularly in the AANR sector, during the second day of the conference.
